What is OYE?
OYE is a free, collaborative app available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. OYE stands for “Open Your Eyes.” We are passionate about sunrises and sunsets. By using the OYE app, you can intuitively discover the best-rated sunrise and sunset spots recommended by our community.
How does OYE product and services works?
We offer a variety of features and modules to cater to most needs, including:
Discovery: Allows you to return to the main screen.
Suggestions: Shows the best places based on filters and sorting, in either list or map view.
Add a New Place: If a place doesn’t exist, you can create a new one (must fit OYE’s Terms & Conditions).
Add a Review to an Existing Place: Add your review and picture to an existing place.
Favorites: Save any place to your favorites.
New Places Close to Home: Discover new places added near your home address.
My Reviews: View a list or map of all the reviews you’ve added.
Worldwide Feed: Explore and see all new pictures and best-rated places based on user preferences from around the world.

I want to add a place and it does not work why?
We have implemented a rule to improve simplicity and user experience: new places cannot be added if they are within 500 meters of each other and share the same type of scenery and type of place (e.g., a sunrise in the countryside).
What is a type of place? What is a type of scenery?
The type of place refers to the location, which can include beaches, cities, countryside, or mountains.
The type of scenery describes what you will experience at the location, such as a sunrise, a viewpoint, or a sunset.
I created a place but I received a notification it has not been implemented, why?
Your place may also not be added if it does not meet OYE’s terms and conditions, including requirements for pictures, location, comments, and description. Please refer to our terms and conditions page for more information.
To ensure accuracy, we manually verify the location of every picture, making sure each photo is linked to the correct place.
Our terms and conditions page provides detailed guidelines, including a strict zero-tolerance policy for nudity, choking, or violent content. We do not accept any such material.
How can I create an account?
First, you can use the OYE app without creating an account. If you wish to register, you can do so by email, linking your Google account, Facebook account or using your Apple account. Once your account is created, you will receive a one-time password for verification (please check your spam folder if you don't receive it).
What is the payment solution you are using?
All payments are secured and we use Stripe as payment provider.
Can I use OYE app without my location?
Yes, it’s possible; however, you will not be able to access all OYE functionalities.
Why is the offline map not Google Maps?
Since Google Maps cannot be downloaded for offline use, we utilize Mapbox instead.
What is the sunrise/sunset timing provider?
To provide sunrise and sunset times in various modules, we use the sunrisesunset.io API.
What is included in display of a place details?
When a user views the details for a place, such as Mirador Cerro Castillo in Chile, they will be able to:
See the name of the place
View the type of place and type of scenery
See the total number of pictures, and view individual pictures
See the total number of likes and like a picture
Share the place either within the app or externally
Add the place to their favorites to save it for later
See sunrise and sunset times
View the address of the place
See the distance from their current location to the place (precise kilometer count from 0 to 499; distances over 500 km are shown as "500km+")
View the place in OpenStreetMap
Get directions to the place using the direction button (opens Google Maps or Apple Maps externally)
See the total number of reviews and overall ratings
View individual user ratings, including pictures and grades given
Like a rating
Sort ratings by most liked or most recent
I have just created a place, why am I not seeing it live?
We moderate all newly added places, pictures, and comments to prevent undesired content on the OYE app.
We do our best to make this process as fast as possible (relying on humans, not machines), so please be patient and understanding!

I have just added a review and a picture, why can I upload only 3 pictures max?
We recommend selecting the best pictures from those you have taken. Since more pictures require additional server space, and to maintain a high-performing app, we allow a maximum of three pictures per review.
What is a label? Why do I need to consider this option?
To enhance your experience, we have created labels to help you better identify certain features within a place, such as whether it is free, a rooftop, located in a bar, and more.
What is OYE ad provider?
All ads are managed through Google ads.
I am not a huge fan of sunrise and sunset should I download the app?
Yes, sunrise and sunset watching is for everyone.
If you're not particularly interested in them, you can still download the app to discover the best viewpoint locations or explore the feed of pictures from other users.
What's best sunrise or sunset?
It’s a personal choice and depends on your preferences and experience. If you enjoy starting your day early with something beautiful, a sunrise can be a refreshing way to begin. If you prefer the beauty of the end of the day, watching a sunset might be more appealing.
How can I experience best a sunrise?
Arrive at least 30 minutes before the exact time of sunrise to enjoy the beautiful lights appearing one by one. Take time to relax and fully experience the moment.
How can I experience best a sunset?
Arrive at least 10–15 minutes before the exact time of sunset. Most importantly, stay for at least 30 minutes to enjoy the orange and red lights as they appear, relax, and fully experience the moment.
What is the distance filter for ?
To improve your experience, we have created a distance filter. If you only want to see places within 10 km or up to 1,000 km from your location, simply adjust the filter option.
The distance filter applies to every module and helps provide a condensed view with fewer elements. This is a handy option for users who find it difficult to choose from over 100 possibilities.
How can I modify by default distance element ?
Go to your account and enter your first and last name. You also have the option to set your default distance preference.
What are sorting options ?
Within every OYE module (such as favorite places, suggestions, new places close to home, or my reviews), you can sort entries by most liked, most recent, or most commented.
Within the details of a place, you can also sort reviews by most liked or most recent.
How can I add a place ?
As it’s a collaborative app, everyone has the opportunity to add a new place. There are two ways to do this:
From your current location,
From a specific location on the map,
From entering a specific address
Why are there ads in your app?
ITo cover OYE’s monthly costs, including server hosting, we need to display ads. If you’d like to remove ads, please consider subscribing or supporting us by buying a coffee through the app.
Why do you need my address ?
Sharing your address allows the OYE app to notify you about new places added by other users near your location. Activating this option gives you the opportunity to use OYE not only while traveling, but also when you are back home.
Why should I upload a profile picture ?
Sharing your profile picture allows other users to see the reviewer’s face alongside their review and associated photos.
How can I share in the OYE app ?

Your app is nice, but how can I delete my account ?
Go to your account and click on "Delete Account." All your account information and associated app data will be permanently deleted. Please be careful with this option, as there is no way to recover your account or any places you have added, liked, etc.
Do you apply compression to pictures uploaded ?
Yes, every picture is compressed to 66% of its original size. Due to the increasing number of pictures, we do not accept images that exceed 5 MB after compression, for data storage purposes.
