What is OYE?

OYE is a free collabrative app (available through Google Play Store or Apple Store. OYE, stands for Open Your Eyes. We are passionate about sunrise and sunset. By using OYE app, it will allow you to discover in a intuitive way a best rated places from our community.

How does OYE product and services works?

We offer a different features/modules catering to most needs including :

• Discovery (allowing you to go back to main screen),

• Suggestions (suggested best places based on filters and sorting in a list or map view),

• Add a new place (if a place does not exist, you can create a new one - needs to fit OYE T&C's),

• Add a review in an existing place (if I want to add my review and picture to an existing place),

• Favorite module (if I want to save any place),

• New place close to home (If I want to discover new place added close to home address I have input),

• My reviews (list and map view of all reviews I have added),

• Worldwide feed (allows you to travel and see all new pictures best rated based on users preferences).

To access specific functionnalities (suggestions/download map offline) and remove adds, we offer a variety of options to fit your needs and budget. We have monthly/yearly/or unlimited plan.

I want to add a place and it does not work why?

We have implemented a rule not allowing place close to each other for simplicity and user experience. New place cannot be added if they below to the same type of scenery and type of place (e.g. sunrise countryside) close to 500 meters from each others.

What is a type of place? What is a type of scenery?

Type of place is the location which includes : beaches, city, countryside and mountain.

Type of scenery is what you will experience, thus it can either be sunrise, view point or sunset.

I created a place but I received a notification it has not been implemented, why?

It can as well be your place is not added because it does not fit OYE terms and conditions (picture, location, comments, description). Please refer to our terms and conditions page for any additional information.

To ensure correct location, we will manually check every pictures location, making sure the correct picture links to the correct location.

In OYE terms and conditions page, detailled element such as we do not accept any nudity, any choking and or violent content, zero policy towards this type of content.

How can I create an account?

First, you can see OYE app without any account. If you wish to register you can do so by email, linking your google account or through your apple account. Once account is created to verify it you will receive a one time password to enter (please check your spam if needed).

What is the payment solution you are using?

All payments are secured and we use Stripe as payment provider.

Can I use OYE app without my location?

Of course, yes it's possible, however you will not be able to use all OYE functionnalities.

Why is the offline map not Google Maps?

You cannot download google maps offline, thus we are using Open Street Map.

What is the sunrise/sunset timing provider?

To allow you to see sunrise and sunset timing in different module, we are using sunrisesunset.io API.

What is included in display of a place details?

If user enter a place detail, as Mirado Cerro Castillo in Chile, users will be able to :

• see name of place,

• see type of place and type of scenery,

• see total number of pictures, see a picture,

• see total number of like, like a picture,

• share the place either in app or externally,

• click on favorite place to save it for later,

• see sunrise/sunset timing,

• have the address of the place,

• see the distance you are from the place itself (precise kilometer number from 0 to 499, then it's "500km+",

• view place in Open Street Map,

• using direction button go to this place (open externally google maps or apple maps),

• see total number of reviews and it's ratings,

• see the rating per user with pictures and grade given,

• like a rating,

• sort rating by either most like or most recent.

I have just created a place, why am I not seeing it live?

We will moderate any new place added, any pictures, and any comments in order to prevent for undesired content in OYE app.

We do our best to ensure this process go as fast as possible (relying here on a human and not a machine), so please be patient and kind !

I have just added a review and a picture, why can I upload only 3 pictures max?

We suggest you to choose the best from all pictures you have taken. More pictures means more space on our servers, thus to keep high performing app, we allow maximum 3 pictures per review.

What is a label? Why do I need to consider this option?

To improve your experience, we have created labels, helping you identify better certain features within a place, such as if the place is free, if it's a rooftop, if it's in a bar etc.

What is OYE ad provider?

All ads are managed through Google ads.

I am not a huge fan of sunrise and sunset should I download the app?

Yes sunrise and sunset watching is for all.

If you are not too much into it, you can download the app to see best view point places, or travel through exploring feed of pictures.

What's best sunrise or sunset?

It's really a personal thing, it depends on you and your experience. If you like to start a day early with something beautiful as a fresh start or sunset, the beauty of the end of the day.

How can I experience best a sunrise?

Arrive at least 30 before the exact timing of sunrise to enjoy all beautiful light poping up one by one, relax and experience it.

How can I experience best a sunset?

Arrive at least 10-15 before the exact timing of a sunset. Most important stay at least 30 minutes to enjoy those orange/red lights popping up, relax, and experience it.

What is the distance filter for ?

To improve your experience, we have created a filter for distance, if you only want to see place close to 10km away from you, or 1000km, you just have to edit the filter option.

The filter for distance applies in every module and help keeping an overall condense view with fewer elements. Handy option for those having difficulties making decision with +100 possibilities.

How can I modify by default distance element ?

Go in your account and edit, with your first name and last name, you have the possibility to edit your distance by default.

What are sorting options ?

Within every OYE modules (favorite places, suggestions, new place close to home, or my reviews), you can sort by most liked, most recent or most commented.

Within a place details, you can as well sort the reviews by most like or most recent.

How can I add a place ?

As it's a collaborative app, everyone has the possibility of adding a new place. Doing so by 2 options :

• from your current location but clicking on the central button in the bottom navigation bar,

• manually by pressing 2 seconds on a place in a map.

Why are there ads in your app?

In order to pay for OYE monthly cost including the hosting of servers, we need to display ads. To remove ads, we advice you to go to subscription and buying a coffee will support us.

Why do you need my address ?

Sharing your address allows OYE app to share with you new place added by other users. Activating this option gives you the chance to use OYE not only during your travels but as well when you are back home.

Why should I upload a profile picture ?

Sharing your profile pictures allows other users to see the face of someone review and associated pictures.

How can I share in the OYE app ?

2 ways :

• sharing in app link of a place,

• sharing link of the map location

Your app is nice, but how can I delete my account ?

Go in your account and click on delete account. All your account and app associated data will be permanently deleted. Be careful with this option as there is no way back regenerating all your account and place you have added, liked etc.

Do you apply compression to pictures uploaded ?

Yes for every picture we compressed it to 66% of it's original value. With more and more pictures we are not accepting pictures which sizes exceeds 5 MB after compression for data storage purposes.

We count on you to share the correct picture to the correct location for a specific place location. Doing so, helps to speed up the manual validation pictures process.
